Caring for Carcinoid Foundation - Survivor Stories
Bill Evans

Click photo for full size
- Cancer type: Carcinoid
- Diagnosis year: 2002
- Home: Visalia, CA - USA
I was diagnosed with Carcinoid Syndrome in 2002 after 7 1/2 years of
symptoms. I have survived for about 12 years and, although my case is
in an advanced stage, I am still here and able to function.
My approach has been to become "self directed" and seek specialists in
the Carcinoid field. Radical surgeries and participating in clinical
trials of new drugs have brought me this far.
The power of prayer has
sustained me.
By supporting those seriously engaged in research for a cure.
I also encourage others who are seeking cures to work with specialists
and engage the medical community head on to bring attention to the need for
cures.
Encouraging elected officials to support funding for research.
I believe we are all interested in what will happen next if you receive a
"terminal" diagnosis. No one is comfortable discussing these issues
but yet that is what we all want to know.
The answer is that it differs for each person. Your journey is just
that, your journey. The end of your life is as unique as how you lived
it. There is always hope. Hope for a cure, a significant delay,
a reversal, anything that will help you feel better. Don't let the
illness defeat you. It is just one of the many things you have to deal
with and you have dealt with a lot of other issues in your life.
So keep on keeping on.
