How I Survive Cancer

I was told that I was inoperable in Oklahoma in September 2007. I did know that I had a golf ball sized tumor in my stomach and 23 tumors on my liver.

I didn't buy into "you must have chemo right now". I knew that the liver regenerated and felt that there must be something more. Through some fantastic set of circumstances, I found out about Ruth Gerdes and her doctors in Nebraska.

I had my first surgery in Omaha December 2007. The golf ball sized tumor from my stomach, my gall bladder, some lymph nodes and the lower part of my left liver lobe were removed. In late April 2008, I had my right liver lobe removed. In September I had two more very tiny tumors removed from my residule liver.

I have surrounded myself with positive thinking family, friends and my medical team to cheer me on my journey. Keeping a positive attitude, asking questions, and getting many medical opinions have kept me strong. I have learned how to eat better and to exercise.

How I Fight for a Cure

I am letting my story be told to others who have been told they were inoperable. I encourage others to fight as hard as they can physically and mentally. Giving up is not an option.

I have joined a Carcinoid group. I receive from and give support to other members. We also have available many medical reports that help inform us of current research.

My Caring Words of Encouragement

It is your right to do research, ask questions and get as many opinions from many experts in order to make an informed decision on how you want to be treated for Carcinoid.

Surround yourself with only positive thinking people. Keep humor in your life. It gives you a better perspective on how to handle the "icky" parts. Life is just that way. We all have "icky" parts, sick or not!
